Raffaele Costa, former Italian minister, dies at 90

Raffaele Costa, a prominent Italian liberal politician and former minister, has died at the age of 90 in Mondovì. Costa held significant institutional roles over several decades, including serving as a deputy for nearly thirty years, a subsecretary, and a minister in three different governments. He also served as a Member of the European Parliament and as the President of the Province of Cuneo from 2004 to 2009.

As the last secretary of the Italian Liberal Party (PLI), Costa was recognized for his commitment to liberal principles and his advocacy for reducing bureaucratic waste. Regional President Alberto Cirio praised him as a pioneer in the fight against bureaucracy and a dedicated servant to his territory. His political legacy includes significant contributions to the healthcare sector and his leadership during both the First and Second Republics. He is survived by his son, Enrico Costa, a member of the Chamber of Deputies.
