Raffaele Greco promotes marine park tourism and turtle nest protection in Calabria

Raffaele Greco, director general of the Ente per i Parchi Marini Regionali (EPMR) in Calabria, addressed the third stop of the Mare Dentro project in Locri on 31 July. He called for the regional marine parks to become a recognizable part of Italy’s tourism offer and highlighted the role of children, families and local communities as ambassadors of a new environmental education.

Greco thanked Locri’s mayor Giuseppe Fontana, vice‑mayor Alfredo Cappuccio, assessor Domenica Bumbaca and the NGO Caretta Calabria Conservation ETS for protecting sea‑turtle nests along the Ionian coast. He warned that artificial lighting can disorient hatchlings and urged local administrations to cooperate with associations, social‑service offices and justice centres to turn protection into concrete practice.
