Rafina: Officials address port congestion and bridge safety concerns

Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, met with Rafina-Pikermi Mayor Dimitra Tseva to discuss the operational challenges posed by the Rafina port. The discussions focused on managing increased maritime activity, specifically addressing the high volume of ships, passengers, and vehicles that cause traffic congestion and safety concerns within the town's limited urban infrastructure.

Separately, the Rafina-Pikermi Municipal Council addressed the misuse of the Bailey bridge in Kallitechnoupoli. Mayor Tseva reported that drivers are frequently exceeding speed limits on the military-style emergency bridge, reaching up to 60 km/h. This behavior causes significant noise pollution for local residents due to the wooden decking and risks damaging the structure. Authorities are seeking interventions from the Greek Army to mitigate noise and are considering traffic restrictions or a total closure of the bridge if speeding continues.
