Ragunan Zoo entrance fees may increase to Rp10,000

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) are considering an increase in entrance fees for Ragunan Zoo (Taman Margasatwa Ragunan). The proposed adjustment would raise the current rates—Rp4,000 for adults and Rp3,000 for children—to approximately Rp10,000.

Legislators from Commission C of the DPRD stated that the price hike is necessary to improve facilities, enhance service quality, and increase animal welfare. Specifically, officials noted the need to improve enclosure security following an incident in May 2026 where a child fell into an elephant enclosure.

Increasing revenue is also intended to reduce the zoo's dependence on the Jakarta regional budget (APBD), which currently covers up to 70% of its operational costs. The goal is to help the zoo transition into a more financially independent Regional Public Service Agency (BLUD). Governor Pramono emphasized that while the current rates are very low compared to other capital city zoos, any adjustment must remain affordable for the public.
