Ragusa administration faces crisis following Iacono resignation
The municipal administration in Ragusa, led by Mayor Peppe Cassì, is facing a significant political crisis following the resignation of assessor Giovanni Iacono. The Democratic Party (PD) has characterized the situation as a "terminal phase" for the current government.
Riccardo Schininà, the local PD secretary, stated that a cabinet reshuffle would likely be insufficient to resolve internal tensions. He attributed the decline of the "Cassì system" to the Mayor's shift toward Forza Italia, which the opposition claims departs from the civic movement that secured his 2023 victory. Additional points of contention include administrative issues regarding local landmarks and urban management.
In response, progressive forces, including Sinistra Italiana, are calling for unity to build a political alternative. The opposition is currently working to organize a shared program and identify a new leadership figure ahead of upcoming elections.
