Ragusa celebrates patron saint San Giovanni Battista

The city of Ragusa is celebrating its patron saint, San Giovanni Battista, with a series of religious ceremonies and public festivities. The celebrations include major processions involving the saint's simulacrum and the Arca Santa through the city's historic streets.

Key events include processions to the churches of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Beato Clemente Marchisio. On August 29, the festivities reach their peak, with the Cathedral remaining open to the faithful from 6:00 AM until midnight. Mass will be celebrated hourly, with a significant service at 5:30 PM presided over by Monsignor Giombattista Di Quattro, the Apostolic Nuncio to Brazil. A central procession through the historic center is scheduled for 6:30 PM, followed by a formal act of entrustment of the city to the saint.

In addition to religious rites, the celebrations feature cultural events such as concerts and the traditional San Giovanni Fair, which runs from August 25 to November 30.
