Ragusa province launches cultural cooperation program with Catalonia

The “In viaggio con i Cabrera” program will launch a new cycle of cooperation and twinning initiatives between the Iblean territory in Sicily and Catalonia from October 3 to December 7. The project aims to highlight the historical links between Catalonia and the ancient County of Modica through the history of the Cabrera family.

Promoted in collaboration with the Società Ragusana di Storia Patria, the initiative involves five municipalities in the province of Ragusa: Comiso, Pozzallo, Modica, Ragusa, and Scicli. The program combines historical research, cultural dissemination, and heritage valorization to strengthen relations between Sicilian and Catalan institutions, scholars, and cultural entities.

Maria Rita Schembari, President of the Libero Consorzio, noted that the project allows the region to rediscover its Medieval origins and the development of the County of Modica. The schedule includes study sessions, meetings, and guided tours across various local communities.
