Raheem Sterling pleads guilty to dangerous driving and drug charges
Former England footballer Raheem Sterling has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen. The charges stem from a single-vehicle accident on May 28, 2026, in which Sterling crashed his Lamborghini Urus into roadside infrastructure near the M3 motorway in Hampshire.
During the incident, witnesses reported seeing the vehicle swerving erratically between lanes. One witness described seeing an inflated white balloon inside the car, which she initially mistook for an airbag. Upon his arrest, police found Sterling in the passenger seat with six canisters of nitrous oxide, a Class C drug, and an empty balloon.
Sterling, 31, appeared before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He faces a potential prison sentence of up to two years. He is currently without a club following his departure from Feyenoord. A driving ban is in effect until his sentencing, which is expected in late November.
