Rahlstedt bus station in Hamburg to open October 5

The new XXL bus station at Rahlstedt (Amtsstraße) in Hamburg is scheduled to officially open on October 5, 2026. The project, managed by HOCHBAHN, follows two years of construction to replace the existing facility and accommodate growing mobility demands in the district.

The new station features a distinctive roof construction equipped with green spaces and photovoltaic systems. To ensure accessibility, the facility includes tactile guidance elements, floor indicators, and step-free boarding areas. An elevator and escalator will connect the bus station to a newly constructed pedestrian tunnel, which is designed to allow for a future connection to the S4 railway line.

While the opening was delayed from its original summer target due to weather-related issues during a snowy winter, the upgraded station will significantly increase capacity. Previously serving approximately 1,200 buses daily, the new hub is designed to handle up to 144 buses per hour and up to 15,100 passengers, serving as a vital mobility node for eastern Hamburg.
