Rahlstedt station opens new nine-million-euro bus terminal

A new, barrier-free bus terminal at Rahlstedt station in Hamburg has officially opened following a two-year construction period. The project, which required an investment of approximately nine million euros by HOCHBAHN, serves 16 bus lines and is designed to accommodate roughly 15,000 passengers daily.

The facility features five accessible departure areas, three large roof structures with 1,300 square meters of greenery, and 157 photovoltaic modules. Modern amenities include digital passenger information systems, wind protection, seating areas, and tactile guidance elements for accessibility. The redevelopment also serves as preparation for the future S4 line.

While the terminal is operational, some features are still being finalized. Digital departure displays are not yet fully functional, and a new elevator connecting the bus island to the pedestrian tunnel is not scheduled to be commissioned until early 2027.
