Rahm Emanuel says U.S. is ready for a Jewish president
Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel stated during an appearance on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ that the United States is ready to elect its first Jewish president. Emanuel, who is considering a Democratic presidential bid for 2028, argued that voters should focus more on the declining faith Americans have in their country rather than his religious identity.
“My faith is not your problem,” Emanuel said, adding that the loss of national confidence is the more pressing issue facing the country. He emphasized that he would not alter his religious identity for political support, noting that his faith has historically guided his policy decisions in roles such as White House chief of staff and U.S. ambassador to Japan.
Elizabeth Barcohana, chair of the California Republican Party’s Subcommittee for Jewish Engagement, criticized his remarks, describing him as sounding “pathetic.”
