Rahm Emanuel urges Democrats to prioritize ethics reform over Trump impeachment
Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel has urged Democrats not to pursue impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump if the party wins control of the House of Representatives in the upcoming midterm elections.
Speaking on NBC News’ ‘Meet the Press’, Emanuel argued that impeachment would likely result in a political ‘food fight’ without achieving meaningful results. He suggested that instead of impeachment, Democrats should focus on delivering a comprehensive ethics reform package to address government corruption and hold the administration accountable.
This recommendation comes as Democrats hold a projected advantage heading into the elections. While some members of the party have considered investigations, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has previously indicated that tackling healthcare costs and affordability would be top priorities.
