Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi face FIRs following Delhi protest clashes

Delhi Police have registered multiple FIRs against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several other INDIA bloc members, following protests in New Delhi. The legal actions stem from allegations of assaulting police personnel, including female officers, and obstructing government officials during demonstrations near Jantar Mantar and Akashvani Bhavan.

The protests were organized to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition leaders allege irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming the process has unfairly excluded certain demographics. The Election Commission and the government have denied all allegations of voter list manipulation.

During the clashes, approximately 91 people, including several Members of Parliament, were detained. While police are investigating mobile phone footage of the alleged assaults, Congress leaders have characterized the FIRs as political targeting and an assault on democratic rights. The opposition has continued its agitation, including a planned sit-in at Gandhi Smarak and seeking an audience with President Droupadi Murmu.
