Rahul Chahar claims six wickets for Surrey against Essex

Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar delivered a standout performance for Surrey in a County Championship Division One match against Essex at Chelmsford. Chahar claimed figures of 6/80 in 22 overs, marking his ninth five-wicket haul and second-best performance in his first-class career.

His wickets included Charlie Allison, Michael Pepper, Zaman Akhtar, Simon Harmer, Jamie Porter, and Sam Cook. Despite Chahar’s efforts, Essex secured a 96-run lead after being bowled out for 279 in their first innings, following a century (113) from Dean Elgar. Surrey had previously been bowled out for 183 in their first innings.

At the close of play on the second day, Surrey faced difficulties, reaching 51/4 and still trailing Essex by 45 runs.
