Former Indian head coach and batter Rahul Dravid has named MS Dhoni as the greatest captain in cricket history. In a ‘winner-stays-on’ contest conducted for Cricinfo’s YouTube channel, Dravid evaluated several legendary skippers across different eras and nations.

During the bracketed competition, Dravid selected Ricky Ponting over Steve Smith, and Steve Waugh over Ponting. Virat Kohli was chosen over Steve Waugh, but Kohli was subsequently eliminated when Dravid selected former Pakistan captain Imran Khan. In the final round, Dravid chose Dhoni over Imran Khan to crown the former Indian wicketkeeper-captain as the best leader in the game.

The candidates highlighted significant achievements, including Ponting’s two ODI World Cup titles and Imran Khan’s 1992 ODI World Cup victory with Pakistan. Dhoni, ultimately selected as the winner, holds a highly successful record with 178 wins in 332 matches and multiple ICC white-ball titles.
