Rahul Gandhi faces allegations of pushing journalist and police brutality

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is facing allegations from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding his conduct during an opposition protest in New Delhi on October 12. The BJP claims Gandhi pushed and manhandled Richa Parashar, a pregnant journalist covering the event, causing her to fall and sustain injuries that required hospital admission.

Separately, Gandhi has accused the Delhi Police of using excessive force against student protesters during demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He highlighted the case of Athira, a student from Kerala, who allegedly lost hearing in one ear due to police action. Additionally, a member of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) alleged she was physically assaulted and scratched by a female police constable while being detained.

In response to the crackdown, the Indian Youth Congress has challenged the Delhi Police's decision to denotify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site in the Delhi High Court, arguing it infringes upon fundamental rights to peaceful assembly.
