Delhi University students protest for women's safety amid political criticism

Students from various Delhi University colleges, including Miranda House and Lady Shri Ram College, have intensified protests demanding enhanced safety for women in the national capital. The demonstrations were triggered by a recent gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl near Aastha Kunj Park in South Delhi. Protesters are using satirical slogans and placards to demand better street lighting, increased police presence, and greater government accountability, arguing that the solution to crime is to make public spaces safe rather than restricting women's movement.

In a separate political development, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has criticized the central government's response to these issues. Gandhi accused the administration of practicing 'patriarchy' by suggesting women stay home for safety instead of addressing the root causes of violence. He also alleged that the government is targeting social justice by scrutinizing university syllabi following social media criticism of books by B.R. Ambedkar and Jyotiba Phule, claiming the education system is being used to discourage critical thinking.
