Rahul Gandhi criticizes government over unsafe student housing

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has criticized the central government regarding the lack of safe hostel facilities for students. During his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ youth outreach program in Indore, Gandhi highlighted the plight of students forced to reside in unsafe private accommodations (PGs) due to a shortage of secure institutional housing.

Gandhi addressed the family of 21-year-old Arpit Jaj, a student from Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, who died on September 6 during the collapse of the Satya Niketan building in Delhi. He questioned the progress of the investigation into the tragedy and emphasized that if safe hostels were available, families would not be forced to place their children in hazardous environments.

During the event, Gandhi noted that students have raised concerns regarding government spending priorities, questioning why funds are available for ceremonial purposes but not for constructing essential student infrastructure. He called for greater accountability to ensure student safety and prevent future tragedies.
