Delhi Police accused of misconduct against women at Jantar Mantar
Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have criticized the Delhi Police following allegations of misconduct against women protesters and female journalists during demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. The protests, which included calls for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, reportedly resulted in hundreds of detentions.
Allegations include male police officers misbehaving with women, dragging journalists, and seizing cameras. Some female journalists have accused officers of sexual harassment, a matter that has been referred to the Crime Branch for investigation. The All India Students Association (AISA) also reported that male officers engaged in unprofessional behavior and inappropriate touching of women, including lawyers and protesters.
Rahul Gandhi demanded that Home Minister Amit Shah respond to the situation, noting that the Delhi Police falls under the Ministry of Home Affairs. He called for the public release of CCTV footage from the Saket police station regarding previous incidents and urged immediate action against दोषी (guilty) officers to ensure justice for the victims.
