Rahul Gandhi sparks BJP backlash with 'Shivji ki Baraat' comment

A political dispute has emerged in India following comments made by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a press conference at the Congress headquarters in Delhi. Gandhi, addressing allegations of vote theft and criticizing the Chief Election Commissioner, described the opposition's movement to protect the Constitution as ‘Shivji ki Baraat’ (Lord Shiva's wedding procession) and ‘Shiv ka dance’ (Shiva's dance).

Gandhi appealed to all political parties to join the movement and remain united when filing petitions in the Supreme Court, stating that anyone wishing to protect the Constitution is welcome to participate without a formal plan.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responded sharply to these remarks. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan dismissed the description, stating, “This is not Lord Shiva's wedding procession, but a gathering of hooligans spreading anarchy.” BJP spokespersons further criticized Gandhi, accusing him of having anti-Hindu sentiments and claiming the Congress party is attempting to vent frustration over electoral losses through street protests.
