Rahul Gandhi targets BJP over anti-incumbency and election integrity

Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), arguing that the phenomenon of anti-incumbency is a fundamental force in Indian democracy that eventually affects all political leaders. Gandhi cited former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as an example of how rapid shifts in public support can occur even after significant political victories.

Gandhi also raised concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process, claiming that elections are “fundamentally broken” and warning that public trust in the voting system is weakening. His comments followed reports regarding the Election Commission of India and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The BJP responded to these allegations by dismissing Gandhi’s claims and asserting that anti-incumbency is actually strong against the Congress party. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi defended the Election Commission’s actions and challenged the opposition's electoral record.
