Rahul Gandhi visits Chennai for student outreach and meets CM Vijay

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Chennai to conduct the sixth edition of ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ (Voice of Students), a youth outreach program addressing issues such as examination irregularities, paper leaks, rising tuition fees, and unemployment. The event, held at Island Grounds, saw significant registration with over one lakh students signing up, though entry was restricted to 10,000 cardholders.

During the visit, Gandhi met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at his Neelankarai residence. The meeting, which included a private lunch and coffee, served as the first high-level consultation between the two leaders since the formation of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance and the inclusion of the Congress in the INDIA bloc.

While the visit focused on student engagement, it also highlighted political tensions. The DMK criticized the use of a Hindi title for the event, viewing it as a lack of respect for Tamil culture. Simultaneously, Gandhi and Congress leadership have been mobilizing protests in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging electoral irregularities and demanding his resignation. Gandhi has also called for a march to the Supreme Court to submit a memorandum regarding these concerns.
