Rahul Gandhi to visit Pune for student outreach and party unity test
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is scheduled to visit Pune on August 22 as part of his nationwide student outreach campaign, ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’. The visit includes an interactive session specifically targeting female students under the theme ‘Now young women will speak, and the nation will listen’. The program aims to address various educational and systemic concerns, including rising education costs, campus infrastructure, hostel facilities, personal safety, and alleged NEET exam paper leaks.
The visit serves as a critical test for the internal unity of the Pune City Congress unit. Following a recent administrative restructuring that divided the city into East and West Pune zones to decentralize leadership, factionalism has emerged. While West Zone President Deepti Chaudhari has finalized her committee appointments, the East Zone executive committee, led by Prashant Jagtap, remains unfinalized. Observers suggest that while the party is active in street-level protests regarding civic issues like traffic and potholes, resolving internal rivalries remains a primary challenge for the local organization.
