Rahul Gandhi's convoy involved in collision on Purvanchal Expressway

The convoy of Indian Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, was involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning. The accident occurred near the Haliapur area, specifically around the 89.5 to 91 kilometer milestones, while Gandhi was traveling from Lucknow to Sultanpur.

Initial reports indicate that the collision involved five vehicles and one ambulance. The accident was reportedly triggered by sudden braking by a vehicle at the front of the convoy, causing trailing vehicles to crash into one another. While several Congress workers, party officials, and security personnel sustained injuries, Rahul Gandhi was reported to be completely safe and uninjured.

Gandhi was traveling to Sultanpur to appear before a special MP/MLA court regarding a 2018 criminal defamation case. The case stems from comments made about Amit Shah during the 2018 Karnataka assembly elections. Following the accident, Gandhi continued to Sultanpur, where he was met by supporters.
