Rahul Gandhi calls for overhaul of India's exam system after NEET paper leaks

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed students at the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” rally in Dehradun, urging a complete rebuild of India's examination system. He highlighted that paper leaks have become a “new normal,” citing 152 reported leaks over the past ten years affecting roughly 7.5 crore (75 million) candidates. Gandhi lamented that no one has been convicted for these crimes, calling the conviction rate “zero.”

The rally featured the grieving father of Riya Kumari, who allegedly committed suicide after the NEET‑UG paper leak, underscoring the human cost. Gandhi accused the entire education apparatus—from coaching centres and exam centres to the National Testing Agency and the Ministry of Education—of being complicit, and demanded political consensus and immediate legal action against perpetrators. He proposed technology‑driven solutions such as secure question banks and randomised papers, and stressed that no political party should control educational institutions.

Gandhi also warned that paper leaks threaten the future of India's youth, limiting opportunities for millions who invest years of study for competitive exams.
