Rahul Navin granted one-year extension as ED Director

The Indian government has granted a one-year tenure extension to Rahul Navin, the Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the extension, which will allow the 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer to remain in office until August 13, 2027.

The extension specifically includes a provision for Navin to continue in his role beyond his scheduled superannuation date of July 31, 2027. Under existing regulations, the ED Director is appointed for an initial two-year term, with the possibility of up to three successive one-year extensions.

Navin, an expert in international taxation and transfer pricing, has led the agency through several high-profile investigations. These include probes into the Reliance Anil Ambani Group, the political consultancy firm I-PAC, and various online money gaming companies. His tenure has also seen a focus on restoring assets to victims of real estate fraud and managing litigation related to the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and the repealed Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA).
