Biagio Conte biopic to air on Rai 1 following Palermo premiere

The biographical film ‘Sul cammino di Francesco – La vita di Biagio Conte’, directed by Costanza Quatriglio, is set to air on Rai 1 on October 11. The film chronicles the life of Biagio Conte, a man from a wealthy Palermo family who abandoned his privileged life to dedicate himself to the city's homeless and marginalized populations. Conte founded the Missione di Speranza e Carità in 1991, an organization that continues his work today.

A national premiere held at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo was attended by Italian President Sergio Mattarella, along with regional and local officials. However, the gala event was interrupted by technical malfunctions with the theater's equipment, preventing the full screening. Despite the interruption, the President expressed his appreciation for the film's accuracy and intended to watch the remainder on television.

Cast members include Alessio Vassallo as Biagio Conte and Donatella Finocchiaro. The production aims to highlight themes of solidarity and social responsibility, presenting Conte as a modern figure of the Franciscan spirit.
