Rai 2 to debut crime series Estranei in October

The new crime series ‘Estranei’ is set to debut on Rai 2 and RaiPlay starting October 9, 2026. Directed by Cosimo Alemà, the four-part production is filmed across the Emilia-Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions.

The plot follows Laura Macchi, a Carabinieri negotiator played by Elena Radonicich, who returns to her hometown of Correggio to care for her ailing father, the local mayor. The investigation begins when two young lovers from different cultural backgrounds, Camilla and Manraj, mysteriously disappear. This disappearance triggers a series of dramatic events that expose deep-seated tensions, prejudices, and secrets within the community, which includes one of Italy’s largest Sikh populations.

The series features a cast including Ricky Tognazzi, Giulio Scarpati, and Marco Bocci. The narrative is loosely inspired by the real-life case of Saman Abbas and explores themes of cultural coexistence, family secrets, and personal healing against the atmospheric backdrop of the Italian plains.
