RAI acquires rights to Baywatch reboot for Rai 2

RAI has acquired the broadcasting rights for the Baywatch reboot on its Rai 2 channel. Produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, the new series features a cast including Stephen Amell, Brooks Nader, and Noah Beck.

The reboot will consist of 12 episodes and aims to modernize the franchise while maintaining iconic elements such as the red swimsuits and high-stakes rescues. The cast includes Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, alongside Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader. Several original cast members, including Erika Eleniak, Michael Bergin, and Kelly Packard, are set to appear as guest stars.

The acquisition follows international distribution deals where Prime Video holds rights in various territories, while Sky holds rights for the UK and Ireland. The move to terrestrial television in Italy raises questions regarding viewership trends for series transitioning from streaming platforms to generalist broadcasting.
