Carlo Calenda criticizes Sicilian infrastructure after travel delays

Carlo Calenda, leader of the Azione party, has criticized the state of infrastructure in Sicily following a three-day travel disruption. Calenda reported being stranded due to flight suspensions in Catania caused by the eruption of Mount Etna.

He described the region as being neglected, comparing its condition to that of a third-world country. Calenda specifically highlighted issues with the transportation network, noting poor road conditions and inadequate services. He also pointed to failing water infrastructure in Palermo and Catania, suggesting that the Italian state should take direct management of the region's essential services for the next 30 years to address long-standing neglect.
