RAID police intervene after man threatens firefighters with rifle in Digne-les-Bains

In Digne-les-Bains, the elite police unit RAID intervened on Wednesday, September 2, after a man threatened firefighters with a rifle. The incident began when emergency services arrived at a residence to assist a man with health issues. Upon arrival, the individual brandished a firearm and barricaded himself inside, expressing suicidal intentions.

Authorities successfully removed the suspect from the premises in the early afternoon. He was initially placed in custody for “violence with a weapon” against firefighters, according to prosecutor Antoine Pesme. However, his custody was quickly lifted due to physical and psychiatric medical requirements, and he remains hospitalized.
