Raif Mustafa appointed as advisor to Bulgarian Interior Minister
Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerzhiev has appointed Raif Mustafa as a new advisor. Mustafa is a former officer for the State Security (DS) service, having served in the Kardzhali region between 1986 and 1989.
Mustafa’s career includes serving as a deputy minister of the Interior during the Stanislavski cabinet and holding various roles within the Kardzhali municipal government, including eight years as chairman of the municipal council. He has also held positions within the police directorate in Kardzhali.
Reports indicate that Mustafa previously received a conditional two-year prison sentence and a fine following a 2011 corruption case involving an attempted bribe. Regarding his past service in the State Security, Mustafa has stated that he worked with the conviction of being useful to the local population and has no reason to be ashamed of his actions.
