Maharashtra schoolgirls' viral video prompts road repairs
Three 15-year-old students from the Raigad district in Maharashtra, India, successfully prompted local authorities to repair a dilapidated road through a satirical news report. Neha Ghare, Jyotsna Mukane, and Mansi Pawar, all Class 10 students at Nyan Makarand Vidyalay, used a mobile phone to film a mock news segment highlighting the severe potholes and mud on the road between Khandape and Kondivade.
In the video, the students used an umbrella as a makeshift microphone to conduct a humorous interview about the road's condition. The video went viral on social media after a classmate shared it as a WhatsApp status. The creative approach drew significant attention from the community and local officials.
Following the viral spread, Shiv Sena MLA Mahendra Thorve initiated temporary repairs to fill the potholes and make the route passable. While the current work is a temporary measure to address damage caused by heavy monsoon rains, officials have stated that permanent road construction will take place after the monsoon season concludes.
