Rail disruptions affect London transport corridors

Major rail disruptions have impacted key transport routes in London. A fatal incident at Hanwell station on Monday caused the closure of lines serving Heathrow Airport, Reading, and London Paddington. The incident, involving a person hit by a train, resulted in a death at the scene and led to cancellations and delays on the Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express, and Great Western Railway.

Separately, a signal fault between London Waterloo and Vauxhall caused significant rush-hour chaos on Wednesday. The fault impacted South Western Railway services to destinations including Portsmouth Harbour, Weymouth, Exeter St Davids, Alton, and Basingstoke, as well as routes to Guildford, Woking, and Dorking. Passengers were advised of delays of up to 45 minutes and potential platform changes.
