Rail service disruptions affect passengers across Spain

Rail passengers in Spain are facing significant disruptions due to service cancellations and delays across various regional and long-distance lines.

In Cantabria, Renfe Cercanías services experienced unexpected cancellations on Monday, attributed to “rail traffic management” or “traffic readjustment.” Many passengers were only notified of these changes minutes before scheduled departures. Specific lines affected included the C-1 connecting Santander with Reinosa and the C-2 connecting Santander with Cabezón de la Sal, with some services being replaced by road transport without prior notice.

In the Valdeorras region, commuters are reporting persistent issues with the rail network, including frequent delays and the replacement of regional trains between Ourense and Ponferrada with buses. These changes have caused difficulties in connecting with other services, such as those heading to Santiago. Additionally, long-distance Alvia services connecting Galicia to Barcelona have been subject to delays lasting several hours, leading some travelers to abandon rail travel in favor of buses.
