RailIsland launches 3D dynamic map of Taiwan's railway networks

A Taiwanese independent developer has released RailIsland, a 3D dynamic map website that integrates various railway and transit systems across Taiwan. The platform provides real-time visual tracking of Taiwan Railways, High Speed Rail, Alishan Forest Railway, and various metropolitan MRT and light rail networks.

Users can view moving light points representing active trains, with information such as current speed and the next station displayed. The system utilizes data from the Ministry of Transportation's TDX real-time delay data, Taiwan Railways OpenData, and official MRT arrival boards. Because some systems do not provide individual GPS signals for every train, certain positions are calculated based on schedules and travel times between stations.

Key features include a follow-camera mode that locks onto specific trains, station countdowns, and a search function for station names or specific train numbers. While basic map browsing is free, advanced features like cross-device synchronization and desktop widgets are available through a paid iOS subscription. The developer notes that RailIsland is an independent project and not an official government system; users should rely on official announcements for safety and scheduling decisions.
