Railway Board raises minimum age for Station Master recruitment

The Railway Board has amended the Indian Railway Establishment Manual to increase the minimum age for direct recruitment to the post of Station Master. The lower age limit has been raised from 18 to 20 years, while the upper limit remains at 30 years.

The amendment, effective from October 7, 2026, applies to new recruitment processes. However, cases that are already under process with centralized employment notifications issued will continue to follow the previous recruitment rules.

The All India Station Masters' Association (AISMA) has expressed support for the change. The association noted that since a graduation degree is a minimum educational requirement for the role, most candidates typically reach the age of 20 by the time they complete their studies.
