Railway employee arrested for alleged rape at Raurkela station

A 54-year-old railway employee, Kapileshwar Singh, has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman at the Raurkela railway station in Odisha. Singh, a valve man at the station, reportedly lured the victim with a promise to arrange a confirmed train ticket to Bengaluru.

The incident occurred after the victim and her cousins arrived at the station while seeking onward travel. Singh allegedly took the woman to a valve room near the officers’ rest house on platform 1, where he locked the door and assaulted her. Following the attack, he reportedly offered her ₹2,000 and attempted to threaten her into silence. The woman managed to escape during a second attempted assault and alerted her relatives.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) detained Singh at the scene after the survivor identified him. He has been remanded to judicial custody, and a case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The survivor is receiving support at a local One Stop Centre for violence-affected women.
