Railway fire disrupts Bologna-Milan line in Italy
A fire near the railway tracks in the Cadeo area, in the province of Piacenza, caused significant disruptions to the Bologna-Milan rail line on Monday, October 5. The incident led to the suspension of traffic between Piacenza and Fiorenzuola after flames were reported near the tracks around 10:15.
Firefighters were deployed to extinguish the blaze and secure the area, necessitating a temporary halt to rail traffic. The disruption affected various services, including Regional, Intercity, and Eurocity trains, with delays reaching up to 130 minutes and several cancellations. Some long-distance services, such as the Intercity 604 from Pescara to Milan, were forced to terminate early in Parma.
By 12:30, authorities reported a gradual resumption of traffic, though significant delays persisted for several connections, including the Terni-Milan and Florence-Zurich routes. Replacement buses were organized between Piacenza and Fiorenzuola to mitigate the impact on passengers.
