Railway fires cause major travel disruptions in London and Stourbridge

Major fires near railway lines in the United Kingdom have caused significant travel disruptions.

In the West Midlands, a fire affecting approximately 500 acres near the railway between Stourbridge Junction and Hagley has forced the closure of part of the Snow Hill Lines. Network Rail is currently inspecting damage to signalling, telecoms, embankments, and fencing. West Midlands Railway is operating a reduced service, with rail replacement buses running between Stourbridge and Kidderminster. Passengers are advised to check travel status before departing.

In London, a large fire at a waste facility on Landman Way in Deptford has blocked all lines between London Bridge and New Cross. The London Fire Brigade reported that approximately 100 firefighters are tackling a blaze involving roughly 50 tonnes of household waste. Significant smoke in the area has made it unsafe for trains to pass, leading to cancellations and delays of up to 100 minutes. Residents have been advised to keep windows and doors closed.
