Railway infrastructure projects advance in Mexico and Guatemala

In Mexico, authorities in Coahuila report that the identification of land for a new railway project connecting Derramadero, Saltillo, and Ramos Arizpe is between 60% and 70% complete. The project, which aims to link Mexico City with Laredo, is currently in a definition phase led by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT). Officials are working on the final route and executive project, with immediate goals focusing on a 15-kilometer segment. The state government intends to coordinate with federal authorities regarding land acquisition and potential relocations to minimize impact on local residents.

In Guatemala, the government has entered a technical cooperation agreement with the United Kingdom to advance the planning and development of the MetroRiel project. As part of this initiative, the Cadastral Information Registry (RIC) has begun surveying 21 kilometers of railway right-of-way in the metropolitan area. Technical teams are using GPS to inventory rails, sleepers, and poles, while also mapping surrounding infrastructure such as streets, houses, and warehouses to update existing records for the project's development.
