Railway infrastructure renovations progress in Osijek and Ljubljana
Major railway infrastructure projects are progressing in Osijek, Croatia, and Ljubljana, Slovenia.
In Osijek, the renovation of the pedestrian walkway at the main railway station is nearing completion. The project, which connects the Gornji Grad and Industrijska četvrt districts, has faced several delays due to the contractor, Madex. The works involve addressing corrosion, repairing walking surfaces, and upgrading drainage and lighting. Physical works are expected to be finished as early as Wednesday.
In Ljubljana, the extensive reconstruction of the main railway station is ongoing. While much of the central part was originally due for completion in July, the deadline for most works has been extended to November 30, with full completion expected by February 2027 and an official opening planned for March 2027. Seven new platforms have been made available to passengers as of late August. Additionally, a temporary bus station has been activated near Masarykova cesta to replace the old facility, which Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković described as an eyesore of the last 50 years.
