Railway platform demands guarantees amid Alcázar de San Juan line closure

The Plataforma en Defensa del Ferrocarril del Centro de La Mancha (PFCM) is demanding guarantees from the Ministry of Transport, Adif, and Renfe regarding railway service quality and accessibility. These demands follow the announcement of works for the Algeciras-Zaragoza Railway Highway, which are expected to begin on September 6.

Starting Sunday, the works will cause a total closure of line 400 (Alcázar de San Juan-Cádiz) south of the Almuradiel-Viso del Marqués station for an estimated fifteen months. The PFCM has raised concerns regarding the low platform height at Almuradiel, which may hinder mobility for persons with reduced mobility as the station becomes a southern terminus for various services.

The group also criticized the loss of the direct Intercity connection between Madrid, Alcázar, Linares-Baeza, and Almería. They noted that current bus alternatives between Linares and Almería have schedules deemed unviable and lack northern connections, leaving Alcázar de San Juan without a direct link to Almería. The PFCM has called for improved station facilities at Almuradiel and proposed a new local rail service between Madrid and Alcázar de San Juan.
