Railway reconstruction bids for Szczecin-Germany line exceed budget

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe has opened bids for the reconstruction of railway lines 408 and 409, which connect Szczecin Główny through Szczecin Gumieńce to the Polish-German border. While eleven contractors submitted proposals, all bids exceeded the investor's allocated budget.

The project aims to improve passenger traffic between Szczecin and the German border and increase freight capacity from Szczecin Gumieńce. Key components include adding a second track to currently single-track sections and the electrification of line 409. Once completed, passenger trains could reach speeds of 160 km/h, while freight trains could reach 120 km/h.

The lowest bid was submitted by a consortium consisting of Trakcja, SBM Sp. z o. o. Sp. k., and SBM Sp. z o. o., totaling approximately 1.1 billion PLN gross. The most expensive proposal came from the Spanish-Polish consortium Roverpol and Rover Infraestructuras, valued at approximately 1.46 billion PLN gross. The original budget reserved by PKP PLK for the basic scope of the investment was approximately 894.5 million PLN gross.
