Railway service demands and project delays emerge in Spain and Chile

In Spain, political and social groups in Zamora are intensifying efforts to demand improved railway connections from Renfe. The Working Group for the Improvement of Railway Services in Zamora has agreed to reactivate both institutional channels and social mobilization. A key demand is the implementation of a ‘tren madrugador’ (early morning train). Municipal political groups are preparing a joint institutional declaration to present these demands, and a public protest has been scheduled for October 17 in the plaza of the Government Subdelegation.

In Chile, opposition lawmakers have formally requested information from the State Railway Company (EFE) regarding the postponement of the Lo Errázuriz-Alameda underground section of the Alameda-Melipilla train project. Following a failed tender process, EFE indicated it would focus on other segments, meaning the service originally planned for 2028 may only reach the Lo Errázuriz Metro station instead of Estación Central. Legislators are seeking technical and financial justifications for the delay and have proposed a working group involving EFE and local municipalities to address connectivity impacts in Santiago.
