Italy faces series of general and sector-specific strikes in late 2026
Italy is facing a series of significant labor strikes throughout late September and October 2026.
On September 28, port workers will strike nationally to demand the recognition of strenuous work for pension purposes. Simultaneously, Enav employees are scheduled to block air traffic control in several cities, including Bari, Bologna, Napoli, and Linate, potentially causing flight delays and cancellations. Local transport in the Campania region, specifically AIR Campania buses, will also face disruptions.
October features two major general strikes. The first, on October 2, is organized by Csle with Fi-si support, targeting railways (between 11:00 and 14:00), agriculture, maritime, local authorities, law enforcement, schools, healthcare, and metalworkers. Demands include lower fuel and food prices, wage increases to combat inflation, and energy independence. The second general strike, on October 30, is organized by Usi Cit to protest against war and military spending; this strike will involve all categories except the transport sector.
Additionally, a national school strike involving all teaching, management, and administrative staff is scheduled for October 16. On that same day, EasyJet employees will also participate in a 24-hour national air transport strike.
