Raimund Plancker appointed FIS Chief Race Director for Alpine Men
The International Ski Federation (FIS) has announced that Raimund Plancker will succeed Markus Waldner as the new FIS Chief Race Director for Alpine Men, effective November 1. Plancker, who has served as an Assistant Race Director for speed events since 2022, will take on his first assignment in the new role during the slalom race in Levi, Finland, on November 15.
Waldner is stepping down after more than 12 years in the position, citing a lack of energy to manage the high pressure and responsibility associated with the role. FIS Alpine Director Janne Leskinen described the appointment as an “excellent solution” that provides “healthy continuity,” noting that Plancker is one of the most respected voices in alpine skiing.
Plancker, originally from Val Gardena, Italy, has an extensive background in coaching and technical leadership, having worked with the Italian federation for over 15 years. Following his promotion, FIS will begin recruiting a new assistant race director for speed events.
