Rain concerns loom over Chile cup semifinals as UdeC honors Montero with 2‑0 win

Heavy rain is expected in Chillán ahead of the first leg of the Copa de la Liga semifinals between Ñublense and O’Higgins. Players and coaches warned the wet conditions could deteriorate the Nelson Oyarzún stadium pitch, increase the risk of slips and affect the quality of play. O’Higgins midfielder Juan Leiva said, “Sé que es así, sin duda que va a complicar un poco el juego,” and coach Lucas Bovaglio added that prolonged rain would “break the surface and damage the field.”

In a separate Copa Chile match, Universidad de Concepción defeated Rangers 2‑0 at the Federico Schwager stadium, scoring through Facundo Máter and Harol Salgado. The win came as the club paid tribute to late Mario Montero, providing a morale boost despite the team already being eliminated from the tournament. The result had no impact on the competition standings, but it was highlighted as a symbolic victory for the Foreros.
