Rain forecasts threaten MotoGP and Supercars events in Australia

Major motorsport events in Australia face significant weather disruptions this weekend. The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island and the Gold Coast 500 Supercars Finals are both contending with forecasts of heavy rain and wind.

At Phillip Island, Saturday's MotoGP Sprint faces a high risk of rain starting in the afternoon, with a 65% chance of precipitation forecast around 3pm. Sunday's Grand Prix faces even more severe conditions, with forecasts predicting a 100% chance of between 10 and 30mm of rainfall. Due to these deteriorating conditions, organizers are reportedly discussing potential schedule changes to ensure racing occurs under the best possible conditions, similar to adjustments made during the 2023 event.

Simultaneously, the Gold Coast 500 faces wet conditions for both of its 250km Supercars races, adding complexity to the opening round of the championship's knockout Finals.
