Rain‑driven drainage failures disrupt neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta and Lima

In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, residents of the Villa de Guadalupe neighbourhood say that drainage manholes operated by Seapal have been overflowing for about two weeks during the rainy season. Sewage has spilled onto the streets at the intersection of Alemania and Lázaro Cárdenas, producing foul odors, environmental contamination and health risks. The community reports that neither local authorities nor Seapal have taken action to repair the problem.

In Lima, Peru, recent drizzles caused water to pool in the bypass of Juan Velasco Alvarado avenue in the Villa El Salvador district, as well as in bypasses on El Sol and Pastor Sevilla avenues. The flooding halted traffic, especially for motorbikes and other small vehicles, forcing drivers to seek alternate routes. Residents note that the issue recurs each rainy season and have urged the municipality to carry out drainage works. One resident said, “Traten de hacer lo mejor posible para que puedan dar una solución y que esto de una vez termine. Porque la verdad es toda la temporada y todos los años.”
